Along with donating a multitude of free Lasek procedures, Dr. Chynn is an avid user of www.crowdrise.com , the charitable group funding website. Over the past year, Dr. Chynn has undertaken three different events to raise money for various charities including the American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Guiding Eyes for the Blind and A Wish for Animals.

Dr. Chynn’s latest charitable endeavor involves swapping the challenge of freeing people from their glasses/contacts for the challenge of scaling Africa’s highest peak, Mt.Kilimanjaro. The leading proponent of non-cutting LASEK eye surgery will fly into Tanzania on the 23rd of January and begin his epic ascent three days later on the 26th. Having previously climbed renowned Tour De France peak Mt. Ventoux on his bike, Dr. Chynn is no stranger to extreme physical challenges but scaling this 16,372 ft behemoth will surely prove to be his toughest physical test yet. Dr. Chynn is extremely proud to be partnering with Guiding Eyes For The Blind on this project and is thrilled to have the chance to work with the New York based organisation which has provided the visually impaired community with greater independence, dignity, and new horizons of opportunity for more than half a century. Guiding Eyes provides superbly bred and trained guide and service dogs, enabling freedom for people to achieve life’s goals. All services are provided free of charge to blind and visually impaired men and women and to families with children with autism. Alongside being an ophthalmologist, Dr. Chynn is also an avid dog lover so the partnership with Guiding Eyes for the Blind is a match made in heaven. The doctor’s Russian Wolfhound Rhett is a minor celebrity in his own right and is used as a therapy dog while also regularly appearing in fashion photo shoots to raise money for a range of charitable causes and free LASEK procedures. To date Rhett has raised $2,000 for non-profit organisations and has featured in photoshoots for fashion houses as glamorous as Valentino! A dog’s life indeed! Dr. Chynn has always been a pioneer in the field of laser eye correction and his next groundbreaking procedure will involve lasering a near sighted dog free of charge when he returns from his climb!! Dr. Chynn’s previous charitable project on crowdrise involved taking on one of the most grueling stages of the Tour De France on his bike. An avid cyclist, Dr. Chynn saw an opportunity to combine his love of all things on two wheels while also raising money for an extremely deserving organization, A Wish for Animals. Mount Ventoux has become legendary as the scene of one of the most grueling climbs throughout the Tour. The followed trail mostly passes through Bedoin and its legendary reputation as a scene of great Tour dramas has made it a magnet for cyclists around the world. The mountain achieved worldwide notoriety when it claimed the life of Tom Simpson, who, despite heat exhaustion and dehydration, fought to make it to the top. His poignant last words, “put me back on my bike,” were immortalized with a memorial dedicated to him near the summit, which has subsequently become a shrine to cycling fans. Dr. Chynn, who is both an enthusiastic globetrotter and a well known philanthropist wanted to combine both of these passions by turning this challenge into a fundraising activity for a new no-kill animal center for A Wish For Animals.
